We found out we were expecting on September 17, 2010. Bill and I were both so, so excited, we jumped up and down and danced around the loft like crazies! In January, we found out we were expecting you, our little boy. We decided you would be named Mason Gene - Mason after your grandpa Allison who passed away two years before you (he was a stone mason) and Gene was Bills grandfathers name. We found out you were a boy with all our friends and family at a party where the cake would be either pink or blue when we cut in depending if you were a boy or girl. We were thrilled when we cut in and saw the blue. I think Bill was a little nervous it would be a girl - but we both agreed we were so excited to have a little boy first!
The winter months flew by and spring arrived. MiMi, Aunt Meghan, Aunt Brianna, Aunt KK and Aunt Jen all threw an awesome shower for Mason - so may people came to shower us all with love and everyone was so excited to meet you! Speaking of rain, it POURED all day long, I mean poured rain, the day of the shower! It was a blast though and the girls did an amazing job!
As babys due date drew near, the doctors were concerned you were a "big" baby, and not positioned right for a natural delivery. It was decided it was safest for Mom and Baby to arrive via c-section. This was not an easy decision, and I definantly cried when I found out this was the best option. So the eviction date was set for May 27th. Dr. Hine was going to do the surgery because he was our favorite doctor! In the mean time, we spent lots of time getting things as ready as possible!
The night of May 25th, two days before your arrival, Bill and I went out to dinner at Red Lobster and walked around the Hershey outlets. I commented to Bill that I felt like you had moved down, and my belly looked so "low!" We went home and relaxed and went to bed early. We had planned to have a big family dinner the next day - one last night out before you arrived. But baby had other plans - around 1am on May 26th, my water broke and the contractions started. I did not think much of them and was having trouble timing them because my back hurt so badly, non-stop. I did try and wake Bill up around 0400, saying "I think maybe I'm in labor"....but he just told me to go to sleep and Mason would come by c-sect. tomorrow. Bill got up in the am (after I woke him up around 0700 to kill a spider!) and had to take my car for inspection (procrastination at its worst). I told him at this point I didn't feel like driving, so he called a friend to come pick him up. AFter he was gone about 15 minutes, the contractions became pretty painful, so I text him asking where he was. He replied "About 15 minutes" and all I could text back was "WTH!". I hopped in the shower, finally got around to packing my hospital bag, and I think five minutes later I text Bill again "hurry up!"
Once Bill got home, he called my doc who said to come to the hospital - I didn't even have it in me at this point to dry my hair from my shower. When we arrived, they asked how far apart my contractions were and I said I think like 5 minutes - HA! They were less then a minute apart when they hooked me to the fetal monitor - and I was already 7cm dilated! They asked if we wanted to try and labor naturally, or do the c-section....we decided to stick with the original plan. Everything after that was a whirlwind they threw scrubs at Bill, he changed, I got my IV and some fluids and it was off to the OR, spinal and Bill was brought into the OR. I turned at one point and asked Bill if they started - he later told me when I asked that it looked like a murder scene haha!
At 11:50am that morning, May 26, 2011, the most amazing sound of a screaming newborn filled the room, tears filled my eyes - and I was a mom! He was here, our amazing, beautiful little angel. You were 9lbs 12 ounces, 21 inches - certainly a "big" boy! I got closed up and they took us to recovery for about 15 minutes - time for just Bill, Mason and I to stare at each other in wonder and awe..... They then took us back to our room, and we were greeted by MiMi, GiGi, PapPap and Grandma Myrna......They all loved you so much already and (happy)tears and laughter and smiles filled the room. We are alll SO BLESSED. So very Blessed. You sweet little Mason, have brought the greatest joy to this family.
We spent four days in the hospital, and Mason came home on May 29th, 2011 - to our home, with us, a family of three. This is where the true journey began.
